
Custodian / Light Maintenance Worker
Reports to: Facilities Manager
Basic Function: Provide custodial services along with light maintenance work throughout the facility as needed and pursuant to an established schedule.
Custodial Responsibilities:
1. Clean, dust, vacuum and mop throughout the building; walkways and high traffic areas, offices, common areas and conference rooms.
2. Clean and sanitize restroom facilities including toilets, trash, sanitary bins, stall surfaces, counters, sinks, floors and mirrors.
3. Clean and sanitize lunchroom including countertops, tables, chairs, floors, trash receptacles, water dispensers and all appliances.
4. Empty trash from offices, cubicles and outside waste container, replace liners as needed; bring to collection area, pick up littered trash on property.
5. Recycling – collect single-stream and cardboard/paper recycling from deposit areas in the building; bring to the pick-up location.
6. Seasonally assist with weeding of the property and keeping the walkways clear of ice.
Maintenance Responsibilities:
1. Minor repairs: spackling, paint touch-up, changing light bulbs/batteries, assembling furniture, hanging bulletin boards, replacing ceiling tiles, etc.
2. Move furniture, tables, chairs and deliveries of paper products, etc.
3. Change building and refrigerator water filters on schedule.
4. Test emergency lights throughout the building monthly.
5. Empty and clean the grease trap in the Meals of Wheels kitchen during the summer.
6. Clean and turn on and off auxiliary heaters on a seasonal schedule.
7. Check supplies in the 1st and 2nd floor janitorial closets and provide the Facilities Manager with a supply order list.
8. Refill dispensers such as toilet paper, paper towels, hand sanitizer, etc. throughout the building as needed.
9. Identify areas of concern in the building.
10. Assist the Facilities Manager with being a contact person when contractors are on-site.
11. Any other miscellaneous duties as assigned by the Facilities Manager.
Essential Functions/Qualifications:
Two years’ experience in custodial, maintenance or similar field.
Regular and reliable attendance.
Time management and problem-solving skills.
Self-motivated, able to work independently.
Attention to detail.
Ability to meet deadlines.
Ability to interact with all levels of the organization.
Physical Demands:
Constant bending, reaching, twisting, standing, walking and climbing.
Use of equipment and tools including vacuums, ladders, power washer, hand and power tools.
Must be able to carry and push items up to 50 pounds
Work Environment:
Work is performed inside main office building with limited outside work in the elements.
