Make a difference in your community! Tri-Valley’s Meals on Wheels program in Charlton is seeking volunteers to help deliver meals to homebound older adults. Just a few hours can bring nourishment and a friendly well-check to someone in need. 

Position: Volunteer Meals on Wheels Driver 

Basic Function: The Volunteer Driver delivers meals to homebound individuals while conducting a friendly check-in and reporting concerns to Center Coordinator. Volunteers ensure food safety, follow assigned routes, and provide vital social contact to isolated consumers. Mileage reimbursement is provided for approved route miles traveled, reimbursed at the current IRS maximum rate of $0.70 per mile.

Key Responsibilities:                                                                                                                           

  1. Safely handle and deliver prepared meals along assigned routes. 
  2. Follow directions and route sheets provided by the Nutrition Center. 
  3. Observe and report changes or concerns regarding clients.
  4. Learn and implement emergency procedures when necessary. 
  5. Attend annual training session.
  6. Other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions/Qualifications:                                                                                                   

  1. Must have valid driver’s license, good driving record and required insurance coverage.
  2. Must have a motor vehicle.
  3. Ability to follow verbal and written directions.
  4. Ability to maintain confidentiality and respond appropriately in emergencies.
  5. Friendly, dependable, and comfortable working with older adults.
  6. Ability to climb/descend stairs and navigate potentially uneven terrain (walkways, driveways, etc.)
  7. Ability to lift equipment up to 40 pounds.
